Here are some of the regular events we celebrate at Shindy's Inn. All-year-round's a great time to visit ... but these events are extra-special.
Louth Races - Saturday August 6th 2016
The Louth Races are an annual event held in early August on the Saturday following the NSW Bank Holiday and the race swells Louth's population to over 3,500. Racing in Louth dates back to the Louth Christmas Races in 1880, which featured a two race program, a two mile open handicap with prize money of 60 sovereigns.
Nowdays, the Louth Turf Club stages a 7-race program with prizemoney over $74,000. Sky Channel operates for off-course and interstate punters and you'll find all the usual amenities - such as betting fluctuation, bar, barbecue and afternoon tea.
Come to Louth on the Wednesday prior to the races and participate in the 1 (one) stick golf challenge and auction - where funds are raised for the Royal Flying Doctor Service. On the Thursday there's a cooking challenge where participants cook damper or scones. Judging is conducted in the evening at Shindy's Inn by bush cooks Johnny and Ian Mc Master - and we're joined by a renowned Bush Poet, Deanna Johnson. On the Friday evening get ready to dance the night away at with live entertainment - or try your luck at Calcutta - a popular game where you could draw a horse in the Louth Cup for Saturday's racing. Then, on Saturday, it's race time - with prize money over $74,000.00!
And if it gets a bit wet for the horses to gallop (which has only happened 3 times since 1959!) we'll make our own fun. Check out the gallery to see what we mean.
For accommodation you can choose from our cabins, powered and unpowered sites at Shindy's Inn, as well as camping sites on the river and at the Race Course.
